The Madhya Pradesh Government, on July 31, 2026, issued draft amendments to the Madhya Pradesh Legal Metrology Rules, 2011 to modernize the regulatory framework governing manufacturers, repairers and dealers of weights and measures. The draft proposes replacing the existing licensing regime with a registration-based system, simplifying registration procedures and introducing revised application forms and registration certificates.
The draft amendments also provide that registration certificates will remain valid unless suspended or cancelled, prescribe security deposit requirements for repairers, require maintenance of prescribed registers and records, enable electronic submission of applications, and revise provisions relating to inspection, verification, suspension, cancellation and compounding of offences. Updated schedules covering registration forms, certificates, verification fees and compounding amounts have also been proposed.
Stakeholders may submit objections or suggestions to the Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, within 30 days from the date of publication of the draft notification in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette. The Government will consider the representations received before finalizing the amendments.
